Report Calls for Stronger Commitments to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Face of Nationwide Backlash
Boston, MA (November 4, 2024) —In unprecedented unity and resolve, over 300 DEI practitioners, private industry leaders, educators, and government officials have collaborated on the newly released “Win with
Diversity 2030: A Guidance Document for a Just, Fair, and Equitable America.” Authored by noted DEI advocates Effenus Henderson and Carole Copeland Thomas, with essential contributions from diversity leaders Dr. Shirley Davis and Mary-Frances Winters, the report provides a strategic framework to counter growing anti-DEI narratives. The release arrives at a critical juncture, just days before the U.S. presidential election, as the nation prepares for shifts in leadership and policy.
The “Win with Diversity 2030” report addresses systemic challenges facing DEI while directly countering the anti-DEI agenda that groups such as the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 have advanced. With a mission to protect and advance equity, justice, and inclusion, the document outlines key action areas across seven pivotal sectors, including equitable hiring practices, civil rights protections, environmental justice, and ethical artificial intelligence governance. The report is intended to guide the next presidential administration, corporate executives, and leaders across various sectors in advancing a unified and resilient DEI strategy.
“Our nation is standing at a crossroads. Either we deepen our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, or we risk turning back the clock on decades of progress,” states the co-authors. “This report is a call to action for leaders to ensure that DEI isn’t just preserved, but championed as the foundation of a fair, thriving, and democratic society.”
Key insights from the report include:
- Fair and Impartial Workplaces: Establishing national standards to promote equitable hiring,
career advancement, and inclusive work environments for all, including historically marginalized
communities. - Strengthening Civil Rights Protections: Reinforcing Title VI and VII of the Civil Rights Act
and safeguarding the Disparate Impact Clause to combat systemic discrimination in education,
employment, and housing. - Equity in Emerging Technologies: Advocating for ethical AI governance to prevent
technology-driven discrimination and ensure inclusive advancements in digital and social media
platforms. - Immigration Reform and Human Rights: Championing immigration policies that honor
family unity, dignity, and paths to citizenship for individuals contributing to the U.S. economy
and cultural landscape.
With the U.S. population becoming increasingly diverse, the report highlights demographic shifts that underscore the necessity of DEI. By 2030, over 40% of the population will be from underrepresented groups, women will comprise the majority of college graduates, and a significant portion of the population will identify as LGBTQ. As stated in the report, “Win with Diversity 2030” is a strategic response to today’s adversaries of DEI. It’s our responsibility to lay the groundwork for an America that reflects the values and strengths of all its people.
