Dr. Marcus D. Scott

Dr. Marcus D. Scott is Managing Partner of Metamorphosis Media, a DC based firm that combines a consultative and creative approach to its business development.  He is a human rights lawyer and cultural competency and inclusion specialist with extensive public policy and advocacy experience. He uses his expertise to bring together media, technology and film, all of which help impart complex information to diverse audiences worldwide.

 

Metamorphosis Media’s development efforts focus in three key areas:

  • convergence media projects
  • documentary and feature films
  • television programs and series

Dr. Scott has positioned Metamorphosis Media as the go-to resource to navigate the multifaceted challenges of communicating to increasingly diverse audiences.

Dr. Scott has written in a range of areas, including critical race theory, legal feminism, unlearning racism, international transactions, anthropology and political economy. His works include a trilogy of cultural competency short stories for children.

Dr. Scott has been a Special Counsel for the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Director of Operations & General Counsel for the African American Policy Forum at Columbia University Law School; Director of the International Human Rights Law Group’s U.S. Racial Discrimination Program, and Director of Strategic Planning & Policy Evaluation for Enterprise Technology Corporation. In addition, Dr. Scott was part of the in-house management consultant team for two of the four major television networks as they launched efforts addressing bias in hiring, programming and community outreach.

In 2003, Dr. Scott was recognized as “one of the world’s top ten social justice entrepreneurs” when he founded The Fre Institute for Civic Education, a 501c(3) nonprofit bipartisan education organization dedicated to educating across generations to inspire democracy, engage equality and celebrate difference.  Its unlearning racism training and human rights framework fosters high school students’ self-awareness and civic participation. He is a recipient of a number of national and international awards and fellowships for his lifelong commitment to bridging gaps of understanding between diverse communities, across generations and among organizational leadership.

A founding member of the Institute for Inclusion, he is also a member of the Diversity Collegium. Dr. Scott sits on a number of nonprofit boards including Academy of Hope, Mosaica: The Center for Nonprofit Development and Pluralism, Dwight Hall at Yale, The Domestic Violence Legal Empowerment and Appeals Project, as well as WHUT: Howard University Television.

He holds a Ph.D. in Urban Studies from the University of Michigan and a J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh.
